Frequently Asked Questions
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the use of sterilized needles in specific parts of the body to help reduce pain and to help with diseases and other illnesses, including depression and digestive problems.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Even though acupuncture involves the use of needles, it is a painless session. The needles will be placed in areas where there is minimal to no discomfort brought to the patient. Some people feel very relaxed and may even fall asleep. The needles will stay in place 40 – 60 minutes.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, when performed by a licensed, trained professional acupuncturist. When acupuncture is performed correctly, the patient should have no side effects. If a patient does report side effects, the treatment will be modified until there are no side effects. This is because acupuncture seeks to restore balance in the entire body. A side effect signals an imbalance that needs to be corrected.
How should I prepare for my visit?
Wear very comfortable clothing. You should usually be clothed during your sessions. If not, gowns and linens will be provided if your treatment involves partial disrobing. You may also eat a few hours before leaving – not too full and not too hungry.
How many sessions do I have to make?
It will depend on your condition and the nature of the condition. Some will have just a few sessions, while other may need more.
Can I go to acupuncture while pregnant?
Yes! It will greatly help any pain during pregnancy.
Can I go back to exercising and work after a session?
Yes, acupuncture will not interfere with your ability to exercise or work.
